It's the largest and most luxurious sailing yacht in the world and has just been launched at the port of Hamburg. The White Pearl, built in the Nobiskrug shipyard in Kiel, Germany, is the new toy of the Russian billionaire Andrei Igorevich Melnichenko.
Long 142 meters and 25 wide, it is the longest sailing boat ever. Has three trees 91 meters high each with sails the size of a football field, thus becoming too the tallest yacht in the world.
The hull is in carbon fiber, the structure in steel and decks in teak. It has an open atrium that extends three floors in height, while in total the yacht is eight stories high, reachable with the internal lift of course. Nothing is missing on board: six cabins, a room dedicated to underwater observation, a runway for the landing of helicopters, a nightclub and three huge swimming pools. The futuristic design was signed by Philippe Starck. It took three years to build White Pearl.
Ben is there to assist the owner and his guests 66 crew members. The price of this jewel? Top secret. Even if the experts speak of mind-boggling figures: around i 360 million euro.
It is not the first time that the tycoon has launched a super-luxury yacht. The 2008-meter long motor yacht 'A' had already been launched in 119, also built in Kiel but by the Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft GmbH shipyard.
