Gaslamp Quarter: the epicenter of Downtown

Located just off the bay, the Gaslamp Quarter is the central district of San Diego. It is a very lively area, full of cafes, antique dealers, art galleries and "gas lamps" (hence the name Gaslamp, although today they are powered by electricity).

It's a really nice neighborhood, with intriguing late XNUMXth century buildings and Victorian buildings (don't miss the Louis Bank of Commerce). Book a hotel in this area if you want to be close to the shops of Horton Plaza, a wide range of dining options and the heart of the city's entertainment. Here are two recommended structures:

    • Omni San Diego Hotel: the location in the heart of the district is ideal in strategic terms, to enjoy the lively night atmosphere of the area. The property itself is eccellente, equipped with all the most exclusive comforts, including a terrace with swimming pool and whirlpool.
    • Hotel Z – Pineapple Hospitality: new structure, with a pleasant style of minimal furniture. Starting from the name, the hospitality of the Pineapple is dedicated to yellow, but there are no creepy mysteries in the rooms - amenities are top-notch. The hotel offers the possibility to rent a bicycle for free.

One of the best neighborhoods to sleep in in San Diego is the coastal one, known as Marina-Embarcadero. Staying here you will be close to most of the tourist attractions of the city and you can easily walk to the most interesting districts of the center: Gaslamp and Little Italy. At the same time, the presence of the Santa Fe station offers a crucial hub for travel by public transport to other areas of the city. • Marriott Marquis and Marina. Panoramic views of San Diego Bay and the city center, along with a wealth of amenities, make it one of the best hotels in the neighborhood. This hotel is adjacent to the Convention Center, where Comic-Con is held annually among other events. Keep this in mind before booking: if you want to participate in the event, it is the ideal hotel, but if you are not interested you might prefer another hotel in those days.
    • Springhill Suites. Also part of the Marriott chain is this complex with one star less (and therefore slightly more affordable prices), but always of very good quality. The strong point is the location: overlooking the Waterfront Park, from the rooms you can enjoy a beautiful view of the sea and the green area of the city.
