La choosing the area to stay in Los Angeles is crucial, and it is even more so in a city like this, where the distances (and the traffic) are considerable.

Unlike New York for example. where it is enough to have a subway stop and in a few minutes you can get almost anywhere, in Los Angeles i public transport they do not cover the city in such a capillary way.

The metro network is expanding, but the best option is always to have a rental car, so as not to waste too much time traveling and above all to have the freedom that only a car can give.

The major discriminant when choosing where to sleep in Los Angeles, it really depends on the car factor, that is whether or not you want to rent a car.

For each neighborhood you will see the closest attractions, distances and if that's okay stay without a car.

Map of Los Angeles neighborhoods and attractions

The map helps us to understand where most of the attractions are concentrated: we can draw a circle that would close the areas of Hollywood, Downtown Manhattan and Beverly Hills.

By staying within this circle you will be sure not to waste too much time every day in commuting and traffic.

The areas that I recommend the most are: Hollywood in primis, Downtown Manhattan e Beverly Hills.

Hollywood e West Hollywood

It is the best and most natural choice both if you have a rental car or if you prefer to drive around with public transport.

In fact the areas of Hollywood e West Hollywood, are found in a geographical center that places them at one right distance from the coast, especially thinking of Santa Monica, close to Beverly Hills and other attractions in the city.

In fact it is close to two major attractions such as the Walk of Fame and Universal Studios and has many night clubs. It is a safe area even at night.

West Hollywood is centrally located between Hollywood and Beverly Hills and hotels are mostly concentrated along Sunset Boulevard. Public transportation is good from this area with buses to Hollywood and Santa Monica.

Downtown Los Angeles

It is the area where the hotels have a cheaper price, but despite the name, it is not the real center of the city.

It is not very close to the beaches and it is a purely business district, albeit in the evening it has a decent nightlife, including the best restaurants in town.

Recommended if you have a car to move to other areas.

Beverly Hills

This is another great option that is close to Hollywood but also to the beaches and, during the summer, is more trendy than Hollywood. Here it is advisable to have a rental car, but it is also possible to travel by public transport if you are prepared for long journeys. It's a great place for families, with lots of restaurants (especially inside hotels) but doesn't have a real nightlife.

Santa Monica

Santa Monica is not a neighborhood of Los Angeles but a city within the same county.

It is one of the most famous beaches in the city, and it is an area that can be explored on foot.

There are many restaurants, shops and bars within walking distance and it is a very safe place.

Santa Monica is approximately 45 minutes from Hollywood attractions. Beach hotels have higher prices.

È comfortable to stay here if you want to do even a few days on the beach, while to visit the other neighborhoods it is better to stay in Hollywood or Downtown.

Pasadena

Many of you will know Pasadena thanks to Sit Com "The Big Bang Theory“, Set precisely in this small town in California. Close enough to Hollywood (about 25 minutes by car), it offers good accommodations and allows you to get to Los Angeles in a short time. Recommended for those who do not want to stay in Los Angeles, preferring to explore this city and its attractions as well.

Among the things to see in Pasadena, the Old Town, or Old Pasadena, the historic center of the city, full of shops and boutiques, restaurants. Don't miss the Eaton Canyon Falls, the waterfalls that are located within the natural park of Pasadena: a real spectacle that will allow you to hear the roar of water through a forest.
Another attraction is the Rose Bowl, a very famous stadium where sporting and entertainment events take place.

I'll sleep at Disneyland Los Angeles

One of the most important attractions of Los Angeles is undoubtedly the Disneyland theme park, which however is not located in Los Angeles but in Anaheim, about 50 minutes drive from Hollywood.

If you are planning to spend more than a day at the park, my advice is without a doubt to stay inside the Disneyland Resort or in Anaheim in the immediate vicinity, given the distance and traffic you will encounter.

For all information on the park and where to sleep, I refer you to the appropriate article
