Chicago is one of the most popular American cities not only for tourism but also for business reasons, being the destination of numerous international conferences. The choices for the pernottamento they are therefore endless, from hostels to the most luxurious hotels, for all needs.

Of course, in addition to the low / high season period related to Chicago weather and other factors, it will affect the cost of the stay also the more or less central area of the structures. THE better neighborhoods where to stay overnight they are the central ones, such as the Loop and the Near North Side, but also the South Side area, although decentralized, is interesting, with considerably lower prices and good means of connection to the center.

So let's see the areas and neighborhoods where to sleep in Chicago.

    Index

    • Near North Side: an excellent compromise
    • South Side: not to be underestimated ...

    Chicago Loop: In Downtown

Stay among the skyscrapers of Downtown

Between majestic skyscrapers and the greenery of Millennium Park and Grant Park there are several hotels from the high price, being in the full loop and a few blocks from the Magnificent Mile (the shopping and economic street), but which ensure a stay with all the comforts.

The loop is the historic and economic hub of the city of Chicago, with countless clubs and entertainment opportunities, but its charm is due to the exceptional skyline, which can boast among its buildings the Sears Tower, the tallest skyscraper in America, and the particular structure of theAqua tower.

Of course, accessibility to public transport is well organized, allowing you to easily move around the area and visit the Museum of Fine Arts, the Hancock Observatory, or admire the sculpture called The Chicago Picasso, created by the master of cubism right in the loop. Here are some tips on where to stay overnight in the area:

    • Virgin Hotels Chicago: the welcome of this hotel is top class, both in the common areas and in the private ones: the room is large, spacious, equipped and equipped with all the services we would expect from a 4-star hotel in Chicago. A gem? The rooftop terrace overlooking the whole of Chicago and the aperitif offered at the bar.
    • Hampton Inn Chicago Downtown/N Loop/Michigan Ave: as we said, it's hard to find a budget hotel in the Chicago Loop. The only way is to look for 3-star hotels that have a few rooms to offer at slightly more favorable prices. In this sense, the Hampton Inn can satisfy this need: the hotel chain is not luxury, but the service is still aimed at the comfort and convenience of the traveler.

Near North Side: an excellent compromise

    Lincoln park

This Chicago area is a great one for a one centrally located living room without spending a lot. Across the Chicago River, it's off the main thoroughfares (which can get chaotic), but with everything you need close by.

The North Side is also full of sights, starting with the lakeview with its romantic shores on Lake Michigan, and also offers several attractions on Navy Pier and large green spaces to escape the oppression of the city, such as the Lincoln park.

Even here, however, there are imposing skyscrapers and architectural masterpieces, among all Trump Tower, Tribune Tower, The Water Tower Place and the John Hancock Center, as well as art visits to the many museums and theaters. A great area to sleep therefore.

    • The Langham Chicago: the contemporary and reassuringly design, the immense glass windows overlooking the city and the lake, the classy amenities and the location make The Langham a hotel first choice. There is a spa and swimming pool, as well as a restaurant and a bar where, in addition to excellent cuisine, you can enjoy moments of evening entertainment.

    • Freehand Chicago: The fact that the Freehand can be defined more as a youth hostel than a hotel does not mean that you have to prepare to sleep in homeless conditions. Although the rooms are a bit small, the environments are clean and essential. Maybe, if you don't like crowded dining rooms, you will avoid having breakfast in the hostel bar.

South Side: not to be underestimated ...

University of Chicago, Hyde Park neighborhood

This neighborhood is located just south of the loop, beyond the Near South Side, and proves to be another suitable area for a stay indicated to satisfy the main needs, with a good value for money. It is an area that has always been characterized by a strong mix of cultures and ethnicities, especially the district of Bronzeville, historical for the Afro-American community, whose dedicated museum can be visited.

Precisely for this reason the area has often been considered unsafe, but in recent times the situation has definitely changed and, according to many, it offers a great example of multiculturalism and education, thanks also to the influence of University of Chicago.

On the South Side there is also theChicago Midway Airport, the main international gateway to the city. Here large buildings are present in a minor way and the main tourist attractions are represented by the architecture of the Ida Wells house, the Victory Monument and the Fountain of the Great Lakes.

The connections to the center are excellent, so it can be an excellent base for visiting the city. By the way, have you already read our Chicago top ten? Here are the hotels that I point out to you:

    • La Quinta Inn & Suites Chicago Lake Shore: La Quinta hotels have a guarantee. This is no exception, located on the South Side, just a stone's throw from the lake. The hotel is well connected to the center by shuttle and offers good quality services, including a gym and a seasonal outdoor swimming pool.

    •  Chicago South Loop Hotel: i advantages and disadvantages resulting from the choice of this average quality hotel balance each other. On the one hand you save money compared to the facilities in the center, on the other hand you are far from the main attractions. The problem does not exist if you are willing to use public transport.

Is it better to sleep near the airport?

In Chicago there are 2 airports, the most important one, the Chicago-O’Hare International Airport, and the one beaten mainly by low cost airlines, the Chicago Midway International Airport. Both are not very distant but still a bit off-center from Downtown and the main attractions of the city, and for this reason it is a suitable choice especially for those traveling on business or only passing through the city. For tourists, the districts indicated so far are undoubtedly the best solutions.

    Accommodations near Chicago O'Hare

    Accommodations near the Midway

    We suggest:

    • Candlewood Suites Chicago – O’Hare: a few kilometers from the O'Hare, the Candlewood it is one of the best motels in the area. Since those looking for accommodations of this type have a strategic stage in mind, it doesn't hurt to find a place where their stay is comfortable. The suites of this hotel are also equipped with a kitchen, for greater independence of the guest. A shuttle is available that goes back to the airport.

    • Hampton Inn Chicago-Midway Airport: if you have to reach the Chicago Midway International, you will need to find good support in the area. A good compromise between quality and price is the Hampton Inn, which includes a continental breakfast and shuttle transfer to the hotel in the rate.
