With one of the mildest climates in the boot, Sicily is a splendid region to visit all year round. But, if you were wondering what time is best to visit outside of the scorching summer, autumn might be the answer. September still offers respectable temperatures, from the beach, and, continuing with the months, the region is tinged with colors, shades, of parties and festivals of all kinds that delight the most demanding palates and the most attentive tourists. 1 - Palermo and Monreale

Autumn in Palermo is a season with a very sweet flavor, you can still go for long walks on the beach and the city offers perfect temperatures to tour it all on foot as it deserves. 2 - Syracuse and Pantalica

Syracuse is a Baroque-style city with many treasures to discover, here is that autumn becomes a season suitable for shooting it even in the hottest hours. Ortigia, the island within the island connected to the city by bridges, it is a jewel to be explored on foot among its own baroque palaces and the tangle of streets from which, suddenly, the blue sea appears with breathtaking views. Absolutely not to be missed are the Apollo Theater and Piazza Archimede, from which you can easily reach Piazza Duomo and the Arethusa spring.

At about 50 km from Syracuse, you can also visit the necropolis of Pantalica, a really interesting archaeological park, with thousands of tombs that overlook the valley of the Anapo river like many windows overlooking the valley. 3 - Val di Noto (Noto, Ragusa Ibla, Modica, Caltagirone, Palazzolo Acreide)

Choosing Val di Noto for an autumn trip means doing a dip in the splendid baroque style that animates these lands, full of cities rebuilt after the earthquake of 1693 by a battalion of architects and stonecutters.

4 - Agrigento, Segesta and Selinunte

Autumn is the ideal season to finally make that journey to discover the archaeological parks of western Sicily you have always wanted to do, but, with the very hot summer days and the little shade of these places, it has always seemed difficult.

It starts from Agrigento, in the south of the region, a splendid city where, in the south, the Valley of the Temples is located: a huge archaeological park which therefore deserves a thorough visit. Inside there are 8 temples, dating from the period between 510 and 430 BC., the entrance ticket costs € 10,00 and you can also buy the ticket for the Archaeological Museum, in fact the combined entrance is available for € 15,00. In Agrigento, of course, don't miss the historic center and a walk around town.

The itinerary can continue further north, in Selinunte archaeological park, an ancient city historically at war with Segesta. To visit the two archaeological parks the cost of the ticket is € 6,00 for each park, the advice is to dedicate at least one day to each of the parks, even if these places offer the possibility of making many itineraries and even nature trails, for example the beaches of Selinunte, therefore, are suitable for more than a day's visit.

1 - Linguaglossa and Etna Park

Linguaglossa and the Etna Park is the autumn holiday ideal for nature and trekking lovers.

From Linguaglossa you can reach the ski lifts that take skiers to the top in winter, and here you can admire the spectacle: from 2.700 meters high the sea looms on the horizon, taking the breath away of those who witness this wonder.

It goes without saying that in this period Etna, at least this side more luxuriant from the point of view of vegetation, is dressed in warm autumn colors. Inside the park there are numerous paths that can be followed discovering nature and the volcano, up to the summit craters on the side of Nicolosi: here the landscape becomes lunar.

In the vicinity of Linguaglossa you can also go rafting in the Alcantara Gorges (from € 115,00) and visit the Botanical and Geological park. Then, in the evening, you can relax and enjoy the gastronomic specialties of the area and the Etna wineries. A perfect holiday for sportsmen and nature lovers.

2 - San Fratello and Nebrodi Park

The Nebrodi Park, on the northern coast of Sicily, constitutes the largest protected area in the region. This park is also the holiday perfect for immersing yourself in nature and take long walks when the vegetation changes its mantle.

You can take the village of as a starting point San Fratello, from which you can enjoy a spectacular view over the entire valley which descends towards the sea, and from here set out to discover the territory and the nature trails. 3 - Petralia Soprana and Madonie Park

The Madonie Park hosts, in addition to an exceptional natural environment, the country that in 2018 he won the Borgo dei Borghi award: Petralia Soprana. This beautiful perched village seems to have stopped in time and its stones entice you to walk through it and discover it, even from an artistic point of view: here you can follow the itinerary of the Sicilian sculptor Gagini, and then to discovery of gastronomic delights, in particular cheeses and cured meats. 4 - Sambuca di Sicilia and Orange Lake

Also Sambuca di Sicilia, in the province of Agrigento, in the past it was decreed Borgo dei Borghi, and a short walk will suffice to understand why: the country is truly fascinating. 1 - Cous Cous Fest, San Vito Lo Capo (Province of Trapani)

In September the Cous Cous Fest takes place in San Vito Lo Capo, an event dedicated to the excellent dish of North African cuisine, which came to Sicily centuries ago during the Arab domination and is now perfectly integrated into Sicilian gastronomic traditions. Exactly for this reason couscous, which lends itself to numerous reinterpretations and interpretations, today becomes a flat symbol of integration and peace between men, through this cheerful and colorful celebration. 2 - Ottobrata Zafferanese, Zafferana Etnea (Province of Catania)

October is the month in which the town of Zafferana Etnea, a village located inside the park of the Etna volcano, is transformed into an authentic market exhibition of typical local products that give their best at this time of the year: here then a riot of cheeses and cured meats, wine, apples, honey, mustard, grapes, forest mushrooms, walnuts, chestnuts, pistachios ... and much more. Sundays in October open with excursions to discover the naturalistic places where these products are born, and then continue in the village with the tastings, the market, games for children, concerts, besides the historical center of Zafferana on this occasion it hosts an exhibition of ancient crafts, the workers offer a direct view on the creation of sculptures with lava stone and wood, then there are painters of Sicilian themes, embroiderers, creators of puppets. In parallel there are also exhibitions of photography and crafts.

3 - Expo del Pistachio DOP, Bronte (Province of Catania)

The Bronte pistachio has now become famous all over the world and its applications no longer concern only pastry and cooking, but even cosmetics. Here then is the homeland of this extraordinary product of the Etna area, Bronte, dedicates a party to him between the end of September and the beginning of October, best period for pistachio, in which it will be possible to know, and taste, all its uses. 4 - Blue Sea Land, Mazara del Vallo (Province of Trapani)

It is an event born thanks to the support of the Fishing Production District and the Ministries in order to enhance and promote fishing and the fish market of the Mediterranean countries, from Sicily to all of Italy, up to the countries of North Africa. This year's theme will be sustainable fishing.
