1 day

1 - Morning: Breakfast, excursion to the viewpoint above Propast Macocha

You can start the day of hiking by doing a hearty breakfast in Blansko in the Cukrárna Severka pastry shop, where you can enjoy typical sweets and coffee for CZK 70,00 (less than € 3,00). Then, to take the first route, you can go to the town of Oburka. You can save yourself the first uphill stretch, which crosses the town, by taking bus 223 from the Dvorska stop, next to the pastry shop. In the early morning the rides are quite frequent and take 20 minutes. The ticket costs CZK 10,00 (€ 0,40).

From Oburka you can take the many trails marked with the different colors they indicate Abyss Abyss. Initially you will move away from the village of Oburka through the countryside and then, once you pass the small town of Nové Dvory, the forest will begin. No fear! The route is signposted everywhere, with the direction and what is missing on arrival. All the routes are very well traveled. After a short distance in the forest, a downhill path will begin. The Moravian Karst is characterized by this lush green area that leads to the caves completely surrounded by high hills and rocks. Once you reach the bottom, you can continue climbing along another, wonderful forest, this time equipped with a fence that helps you climb, to reach the viewpoint and the refuge. It will take you about a couple of hours from the departure from Oburka, a total of 5 km.

2 - Afternoon: Lunch, excursion to the Punkva caves and Macocha Abyss

Once you reach the top you will enjoy a breathtaking spectacle on the vertical wall that sinks into theMacocha abyss. Inside the car park (yes, you can also arrive by car, however you would miss the whole wonderful nature trail) there are two refreshment points for the lunch. We recommend the Turisticka Chata Macocha refuge, where you can taste typical dishes for around CZK 300,00 (€ 12,00) per person.

After lunch, you can take the cable car to go to the caves Punkva, or take the path on foot, in this case you will have to resume the path with the fence, but downhill, and then continue left on the paved road that crosses the Karst, in a few hundred meters you will be at the entrance of the Caves. The ticket costs CZK 210,00 (€ 8,10) or CZK 250,00 (€ 9,70) if you want to take photos (you will be given a sticker to apply on your smartphone). You can book the tour online or at the ticket office at the viewpoint. Groups depart every hour, until 16pm, taking about an hour. There is a part of the walk through the caves to the Macocha Abyss, which, from the viewpoint, you will only have glimpsed: here you can see it in all its magnificence, it really leaves you speechless! Finally the tour ends with a boat ride across the underground river.

3 - Evening: Dinner, walk to Blansko

Returning on foot, we recommend that you stop for price to Restaurace Oburka, which is right on the road. Pay attention to the times, in these areas you eat very early, after 20:00 it is practically impossible to find an open kitchen. At Restaurace Oburka you can enjoy excellent fish caught right in the Punkva River or even meat from nearby farms. Don't forget to order a good Staropramen, the Brno beer. The bill will be around CZK 323,00 (€ 12,50) each. After dinner you can end the day by taking an exploratory walk through Blansko, a small but characteristic city, inside there is a historic palace, Zamek Blansko, with a very romantic garden.

In summary:

  • Distance traveled: 31,3 km / 6 h 56 min
  • Places visited: excursion through the Karst, Macocha Abyss viewpoint, Punkva Caves, Blansko.
  • Breakfast at Cukrárna Severka (Get directions), Lunch at Turisticka Chata Macocha (Get directions), Dinner at Restaturace Oburka (Get directions)

2 day

1 - Morning: Breakfast, Katerinska Caves, excursion

you can do breakfast da Cafisco, a very nice café where sweets and coffee cost around CZK 70,00 (€ 3,00). Then you can reach the Svitavskà bus stop to take line 233 at a cost of CZK 10,00 (€ 0,40) which will take you to Techov in about 13 minutes. From here you can embark on another beautiful excursion of about 3 km through the Moravian Karst to reach the Katerinska caves. If you have a car, you can safely park at the entrance to the Caves, along the river Punkva, at a cost of € 2,00. Admission costs CZK 120,00 (€ 4,70) or CZK 160,00 (€ 6,20) to take pictures.

The Katerinska Caves are smaller than the Punkva but very characteristic. The tour departs every hour and lasts approximately 1 hour. Once out, we advise you to take the path on the left, not beaten by cars but comfortable because it is paved: it is a track that crosses the rocks and forests of the Moravian Karst and is truly characteristic. You can walk it for a few meters or kilometers: it is very easy and beaten.

2 - Afternoon: Lunch, Krtiny Church, Cellette path

Returning towards Blansko you can stop for lunch at the quaint Mill along the Punkva River, about 800 meters from the entrance to the Katerinska Caves. The restaurant is called Skalny Mlyn and you can taste typical or even international dishes for around CZK 380,00 (less than € 15,00) each.

Then we dedicate the afternoon to a bit of art and culture: the inevitable visit to Křtiny Church. From the Katerinska caves it is about 15 km, 20 minutes by car. By public transport it is necessary to return to Blansko and first take the 231 bus to Jedovnice, and, from there, the 205 to Křtiny, taking about half an hour in all, but beware of waiting, the rides are not frequent. The Church is a monumental example of the so-called radical Baroque widespread in Moravia and Bohemia in 1700, designed by the famous architect of Italian origin Jan Santini. You can visit it freely. Křtiny is a small village but even here you will find beautiful paths surrounded by nature. Not far from the church there is one dotted with ancient cells, each dedicated to a saint, immersed in the thick of the woods. From here you could also return to Blansko via the paths, but they are a good 15 km!

3 - Evening: Dinner, walk

Towards evening you can dine just outside Blansko, and the news is you can take the train! There are 2 trips every hour, until 23:30 pm, the trip takes a few minutes and takes you, at a cost of CZK 15,00 (€ 0,60) to the small town of Dolni Lhota where the Hostinec Mlyn Restaurant is located. It is a very characteristic place, obtained from an old mill. You can eat excellent meat and drink typical local beer for CZK 310,00 (€ 12,00) each.

After dinner you can take a walk in Dolni Lhota or take the train back to Blansko and have a beer there in a Hostinec. A half-liter mug of beer in the Czech Republic costs less than € 1,00. Being places for hikers, in the evening there is not much movement, but great tranquility and peace surrounded by nature.

In summary:

  • Distance traveled: 37,3 km / 8 h 22 min
  • Places visited: excursion, Katerinska Caves, Křtiny Church, excursion along the Cellette
  • Breakfast at Cafisco (Get directions), Lunch at Skalny Mlyn (Get directions), Dinner at Hostinec Mlyn (Get directions)
