Located near the center of the National Mall, it is the most important building in Washington DC. It is an obelisk that commemorates the unforgettable Presidente George Washington. The construction of this obelisk was however very controversial, as various historical events and the lack of funds extended the term of the works for many years, until the inauguration which was held in 1888, after his project was approved more than 40 years earlier.
The construction was built with blocks of marble, granite and sandstone, while the spire is metallic.
After earthquake of 2011, is undergoing restoration and it is therefore not possible to visit the structure which allows a splendid view of the city (you can go up either by lift or on foot).
