Today I want to talk about a topic to answer two questions that are asked me quite frequently:
- can I take out Spanish travel insurance if I am already in the USA?
- I am resident in Spain but my trip starts from another country, can I take out a Spanish policy?
The answer to both questions is no. In fact the Spanish policies can only be taken out before departure and only if your journey begins in Spanish territory.
Today, however, I would also like to propose a solution to those who find themselves in this situation.
The answer is called World Nomads, travel insurance recommended by Lonely Planet.
Who is World Nomads
World Nomads is an Australian insurance company, perfect for the independent traveler philosophy.
What makes it different from other companies is precisely the philosophy of freedom in travel: to be able take out the policy at any time, even when you are already traveling e be able to extend it if your plans change.
Main conditions
If you are already traveling you can take out a policy: in this case, however, there is a 3 day waiting period, after which the policy will be operational.
If during these 3 days you experience a serious injury as a result of an accident or acute illness, you will still be covered.
Maximum age
It is possible to purchase a World Nomads policy only if you are under 66 years of age.
What to do in case of need
For residents of Europe (excluding the UK and Ireland) the policy is provided through the company Bupa Global Travel.
If necessary, call + 45 70 23 24 61, in Denmark or send an SMS, including your policy number, to +45 42 41 30 00.
There is also Spanish speaking staff, but assistance in our language is not guaranteed, as an operator who does not speak Spanish may also answer you.
