Tour of Flanders: Brussels, Bruges, Ghent


Belgium ? such a country? small but strongly hospitable, and? perfect for a weekend to discover its capital, Brussels to visit at least once in a lifetime, why? although full of contradictions, it hides many facets, which make it unique in the eyes of the visitor and all the other characteristic cities, such as Bruges which has remained unchanged over time or the fascinating Ghent.

1 day

Departure from Pisa airport with Ryanair flight:
Pisa 09:15? Brussels Charleroi 11:05
As soon as we landed we went to the bus station (Brussels City Shuttle) where we got on the first one that took us to the center of the Belgian capital which is about 62 km from the airport. Departures every half hour starting at 08:30 travel time 55 minutes approx. Once settled in our hotel we begin our tour through the streets of Brussels. First step ? obviously to one of the most? beautiful in the world: the Grand Place, observed the numerous palaces that adorn it we continue our journey with the visit of the Manneken Pis the famous statue of a child who pees, and going up our walk we visit Rue des Bouchers and Petite Rue des Bouchers two rather picturesque alleys, until we stop at Jeanneke Pis, the little sister of Manneken Pis. We then immersed ourselves in the Center Belge de la Bande Dessine comic museum ?:

In the late afternoon we moved to the Place Royale area and then to the adjacent Sablon district where the Eglise Notre Dame du Sablon stands out. In the evening we stopped at a local in the center where we tasted the specialties? Belgian accompanied with one of the many craft beers (Delirium Caf? pub with 2000 types of beers). Overnight at Husa President Park.





2 day

After breakfast we took the metro in the direction of the Atomium, built for the 1958 Universal Exposition and represents one of the symbols of the city. Then we moved by public transport to the Battlefield of Waterloo (train stop Braine L? Alleud) which has become a place where Napoleon saw the fall of his empire.
Visiting hours: from Monday? on Sundays from 09:30 to 18:30.
After the visit we returned to the center of Brussels where we enjoyed another walk in the Parc du Cinquantenaire, which houses a triumphal arch inside, precisely the Cinquantenaire which is very reminiscent of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

3 day

We woke up early in the morning and after breakfast we took the bus to the central station where we took a very comfortable train for our next stop in the city. from Bruges:

Arrived in the beautiful city? medieval city of Bruges, after settling in the hotel we started the tour of the city.
We started from the romantic boat ride among the picturesque canals of Bruges, then we visited the belfry of Belfort which with its 83 meters offers a unique view of the city.
After lunch we enjoyed a walk in the Begijnhof area, set of buildings that once housed the Beguines and now houses a convent of Benedictine nuns and then we headed to the characteristic windmill district, where we had the wonderful experience of visit the inside of one of these.
Overnight at the Novotel Brugge Centrum.



4 day

The last day of our trip ends with a visit to Ghent.

Our last day? was dedicated to visiting the magnificent medieval center of Ghent, in particular the Sint-Baafskathedraal, the city's cathedral? which houses the famous masterpiece: The adoration of the Mystic Lamb made by the Van Eyck brothers. Walking through the Patershol district, a maze of cobbled alleys, we arrived at the Grasburg viewpoint.
In the middle? afternoon we moved to the station to take the train that takes us back to the Belgian capital:

Did we move from here to the Brussels bus station? Midi where we took the Brussels City Shuttle (one every half hour) 17:30 or 18:00 or 18:30 arriving at the airport at 18:25 or 18:55 or 19:25
