The Harry Potter shop in New York: what to expect

A few steps from the Flatiron Building, the Harry Potter Store is a huge store spread over three floors for a total of almost 2000 square meters. This is the only and most important official shop dedicated to the characters born from the creativity of JK Rowling and hosts the largest collection of products related to Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts.

But don't think it's just a shop with lots of items to choose from. There Warner Bros has made it big and entering this building you will find yourself immersed in a fantastic world where you can interact with products and design elements, you will find merchandise of all kinds and you can admire detailed reconstructions of iconic objects and places of the film of the saga.

There are several areas, in fact, where you can stop and do some Memory picture special, as they seem to be real sets. Plus, if you want something more personalized to take home, you can have your name engraved on a wand, have it sewn onto a robe or print on a journal.

Although basically a shop, your experience inside will be truly all-encompassing… if you love Harry Potter this is a place not to be missed!

The Harry Potter Store is open:

    • Monday to Friday from 9: 00 to 21: 00
    • Saturday and Sunday from 11: 00 to 19: 00

In case of special events or holidays the opening and closing times may vary.

Because of Covid, to avoid gatherings inside and in front of the store, the store has adopted a system of Virtual Queue: when you arrive at the shop you will need to scan a QR Code with your mobile phone and enter the details of your group (maximum 6 people).

When you are able to enter, you will receive a notification on your mobile and must arrive at the shop within an hour of the notification. Remember that the entrance in this case is only the one on Fifth Avenue.

If you have booked one VR Experience, the virtual reality experience, show your ticket at the entrance and you can enter without having to do the Virtual Queue.

The entrance to the shop is of course free.

If you want to experience one of the two virtual reality experiences offers, Chaos at Hogwarts or Wizard take flight, you will have to book your ticket online through the official website of the store (remember that there are no other authorized sellers). The cost of the experience is 34 dollars per person and the duration between preparation and show is approximately 30 minutes.

If you want to book both shows, remember to leave at least an hour between the two shows as you must arrive at check-in 30 minutes before the starting time. If possible, I suggest you do Wizards take flight first.

Why visit and what to see

If you have read all Rowling's books, have been anxiously awaiting the release of the films and know all the details of the characters from the Harry Potter saga and Fantastic Beasts, you cannot miss the Harry Potter Store during your vacation in New York.

To welcome you there will be the huge fluttering phoenix Fawks and walking through the shop you will find different areas where you can stop to make some Memory picture. Thanks to state-of-the-art technology and the shop structure, you can interact with characters and search for magical items.

Among the most characteristic areas of the store, there is the Wand Shop with over 50 wands to choose from and the ability to even have a wand battle with your friends or family.

And if you feel like something to drink or eat, go to the confectionary to buy chocolates, fizzy bees, All Tastes +1 candies in the Honeydukes set or at Butterbeer Bar to enjoy butterbeer in a mug, in a bottle or even as an ice cream!

Finally, don't miss the Virtual Reality shows Chaos at Hogwarts and Wizards take flight. Choose your avatar, wear hand and foot sensors and a helmet and let yourself be carried away by virtual reality inside Hogwarts Castle in the first show or flying on the broom over the rooftops of London and over the castle grounds in the second.
