Il Missouri it is located in the Midwest of the United States, borders Nebraska and Iowa to the north, Arkansas and Oklahoma to the south, Tennessee and Kentucky to the east, and Kansas to the west.
The state is crossed by the two most important rivers of the USA, precisely the Missouri and the Mississippi. The name of the state probably derives from this, in fact Missouri in the Sinoau language, an Indian tribe native to the territory, means "canoe".
The territory is divided geographically into three main parts. To the north extend the plains that are crossed by the Missouri River, in the central part instead stands the plateau of Ozark, a mountain range that runs through the state as far as Arkansas, to the south instead the flat lands in which they pass return again the waters of the great Mississippi River.
The people of Missouri are believed to be outspoken and have a very practical approach to life.
Missouri was initially part of the French colonies that already controlled Louisiana, but in 1821 it became part of the Union. Slaver state, it takes the name of Gateway to the West, as it is the territory to cross to reach the West and undertake the path of conquering new plots. During the Civil War, Missouri was a land of internal clashes between the Confederates and those who wished to split up. Slavery remained until 1865.
Jefferson is the small capital of Missouri, with just 35.000 inhabitants, and retains great historical importance as the hometown of Thomas Jefferson, the father of American independence.
Saint Louis instead it is larger than the capital and has the characteristics of the real old America, with places for excellent beer, bowling, baseball fields, relevant historical and cultural activities. Many famous singers started right from the nightclubs of Saint Louis. It is the city of seven bridges that pass over the Missouri and the symbol of all is the famous Gateway Arch, a gigantic arc of almost two hundred meters.
In Saint Louis it is also possible to take a guided tour of the largest distillery in the world, which controls 50% of the US market, or the Bud.
Kansas City it is a city that still attracts visitors for its clubs where you can listen to jazz music, for the restaurants with the famous barbecue and over two hundred fountains. The theater scene of the city is also very lively.
Missouri is also crossed by the mythical Route66, along which therefore you can discover unusual territories of the state and stay in the motels that we have often seen in the films.
I Ozark Mountains they extend from the southern part of the Missouri River to Arkansas. In the deep gorges and on the plateau it is possible to indulge in outdoor sports and hike through the wild nature of the place.
