If a new attraction opens in the city of Las Vegas, there is no question: if it's not a casino, then it will almost certainly have a record of some kind. It is the example of the Las Vegas High Roller, inaugurated in 2014, which with its 167,6 meters is the tallest Ferris wheel in the world. To make a comparison with the old continent, the famous London Eye (in central London) which still holds the European record, only reaches 135 meters.

Don't expect to take a few minutes' ride on a rickety metal chair like in any funfair - the High Roller experience is quite different. It's not just the height that makes a ride on this colossal spinning wheel unique: 28 cabin sphere-shaped, air-conditioned inside and equipped with entertainment music, allow you to enjoy the best tour lasting half an hour under the scorching Nevada desert sun.

Below, one of the newest neighborhoods in Las Vegas, the Link, of which the wheel is an integral part and in which you can stay overnight at its main hotel. On the horizon, however, the spectacular backdrop of the desert and mountains. And the experience becomes even more spectacular in the evening, when in the cabins, which accommodate up to 40 people, it is possible to organize real parties with drinks made on the spot.

Where is it and how to get there

The High Roller is the most representative symbol of the neighborhood Link, an area of 27.000 square meters created in recent years by the will of Caesars Entertainment. Over the last decade, the casino giant has completely changed the skyline of this segment of the city overlooking the Strip, which finds its main attraction in the Ferris wheel. All around hotels, restaurants, game rooms and dozens of shops.

For those on the move on foot or by car, the Ferris wheel is so impressive that it is impossible to lose sight of it, so reaching it is really simple. If you want to go there with your rental car, however, it is better not to reach it from the Strip, but from the other side of the Linq district, where there is the huge parking lot enclosed between Linq Ln and Koval Ln.

In monorail, ideal solution especially during the day in summer, when walking in the scorching sun can be tiring, just get off at Harrah's & The Linq Station.

The High Roller experience: not just views

The city of Las Vegas is all under the feet of those who take a ride on the High Roller: during the day the bathers sunbathing at the swimming pool of the Flamingo they look like ants just under the wheel, while at night the nearby fountain of the Bellagio it is an even more unique sight seen from above.

Depending on the time of day, the ride on the wheel offers different views. In the daytime hours, it is especially worthwhile to wander beyond the city limits, where the desert collides with the Spring Mountains. But the real show, as with almost all the attractions in Las Vegas, arrives with the setting of the sun. The lights of the casinos, the fountains, the crowds of people who take to the streets animating the warm summer evenings between a cocktail and the other in the Linq bars below, give the spin on the wheel an extra touch.

To say that it is worthwhile to enter a cabin on the High Roller just for the view would be an understatement. The city of Las Vegas, on the other hand, is not so famous for its landscapes as for being one of the world capitals of entertainment and excess. Even its highest attraction offers numerous alternatives in this regard.

    • Aperitif on the High Roller: one of the most popular alternatives to the simple tour, especially in the evening, is to take advantage of the services of an open bar dedicated to the passengers of the suspended bubble. Throughout the half-hour journey you can drink drinks specially prepared by a barman.
    • Events for groups: the cabins are very large and those who choose the simple ride will obviously have to share the space with strangers. If you are traveling in a group, you can reserve an entire cabin, with or without an open bar, for a private experience in the sky of Las Vegas.
    • High Roller Wedding: in Las Vegas, we are used to seeing him in movies, we get married everywhere and often suddenly. Whoever created the largest Ferris wheel in the world could not help but also think about this possibility, which in fact attracts many couples, mostly Americans. However, if you are planning to organize your wedding in Las Vegas and you want it to be as original as possible, you can also consider this option. A very similar alternative, on the other side of the States, is the Willis Tower in Chicago.
    • Romantic proposal at high altitude: maybe getting married on a Ferris wheel is excessive, but using it to make a marriage proposal or a romantic getaway is a much more interesting possibility even for a Spanish tourist. For these needs the solution is the VIP cabin, with access from 2 to 10 people, in which Champagne and chocolate covered strawberries are served and the music can be customized.
    • Eat high quota: another interesting option, albeit not very cheap, is to take advantage of the half-hour ride for a lunch or dinner in a decidedly unique location. There are various options for having a meal on the Ferris wheel.

    Prices and types of tickets

The ride on the High Roller does not always have the same price, it depends on what type of experience you want to live, but also on the time at which you intend to access the wheel. Some categories of people have access to special discounts on tickets, but they are almost all dedicated to citizens of the state of Nevada or the USA (discounts for local citizens, US military or US students). The only one valid for all is it senior discount: for guests aged 65 and over, $ 5 is deducted from the regular ticket price.

Fly Linq: throwing yourself into the void towards the wheel

Although the Ferris wheel offers a breathtaking spectacle and numerous services, you may be looking for a more adrenaline-pumping alternative. The creators of the innovative Linq district have thought of this too. Thus was born zip-line with which it is possible to jump into the void and fly over the Strip heading towards the High Roller (for lovers of this genre it is good to know that if you find one also on Fremont Street).

This zipline is certainly one of the most thrilling activities that can be done in downtown Las Vegas, suitable for both young people and families whose children will surely appreciate it more than a night at the casino. You can jump on the zip-line in a sitting position or lie on your stomach - this option is classified as a Superhero and it actually feels a bit Superman flying over the city this way.

The entrance to the Fly Linq it is located at 3545 South Las Vegas Blvd. It is open every day from 11.30am to midnight, on Fridays and Saturdays it closes at 24am. Where to sleep in the area

Il Linq hotel & casino it is the hotel of the complex from which the Ferris wheel rises. As mentioned, however, the High Roller is located a few steps from the Strip, where there is practically a large hotel on each side of the street.
