Summer holidays in the mountains for self-sufficient seniors

Several municipalities in Italy have allocated economic resources to encourage holidays by the sea and in the mountains. The elderly who are entitled to the Social Bonus, can benefit from a all-inclusive holiday almost completely free (a sharing between € 30,00 and € 90,00 may be required).
Any doctor advises elderly patients to go walks outdoors breathing clean air.
The mountain is absolutely regenerating for body and spirit and for this reason it is ideal for the elderly. Here are our tips!

1 - Trentino Alto Adige: Comano Terme

Region of great naturalistic value. Several tour operators offer solutions designed specifically for the elderly. Many residences organize workshops, daily gymnastics courses, guided tours and moments of relaxation and social gathering. We recommend a bath in the waters of Comano Terme, a small village in the province of Trento known for the efficiency of its wellness center, where you can stay in absolutely ad hoc structures.

Recommended facility: Hotel Casa Alpina Dobbiaco (Dobbiaco)

2 - Tuscany: Apuan Alps and Medici Villas

Tuscany also offers interesting opportunities. In addition to visiting precious medieval villages, historic buildings, churches and museums, we recommend that you dedicate yourself to the discovery of natural places of Monte Pisanino and the Apuan Alps, wonderful places where you can appreciate the typical regional culinary delicacies.
Alternatively, we suggest an excursion to the Medici gardens and villas in Tuscany.

Recommended facility: Hotel Cappelli (Montecatini Terme)

3 - Marche: Sibillini Mountains and Marche villages

Finally we point out the Marche region, which constitutes another relevant possibility. Stroll in the hinterland of Monti Sibillini, relax near the lake of Cingoli or enjoy a pleasant evening in the city villages between parties and food and wine events, are just some of the things to do. If you are a lover of the quiet life, the Marche is the best you could wish for.

Summer stays by the sea for self-sufficient seniors

If you prefer sunny days by the sea in the cool mountain climate, the destinations that are right for you are naturally found along the coasts of our beloved peninsula. Here are our suggestions for beach holidays!

1 - Liguria: Cinque Terre

Those who live in northern Italy can easily reach a real corner of paradise: the Cinque Terre, a wonderful stretch of Ligurian coast. Here there are fantastic towns such as Manarola, Vernazza and Riomaggiore, whose value has been recognized by UNESCO.
These are very touristic places and therefore crowded. If you prefer to stay away from the tourist masses we recommend the village of Deiva Marina, a town very close to the Cinque Terre but much more reserved. There are also beautiful places on the western coast, among which we point out the quiet village Noli.

2 - Puglia: Salento and Gargano

At the opposite end of the beautiful country lies another fantastic region: Puglia, known for being the spur of Italy.
Le mythical beaches of the Gargano and Salento they are famous all over the world for their evident beauty.
In the village of Rhodes Garganico you will be able to see the splendid beaches of Ponente, Levante and Baia Santa Barbara, and at the same time move to places such as Vieste, Varano, Vico del Gargano and Peschici.
Also in Salento there are many hotels that guarantee a perfect stay for visitors of the third age. THE villages of Porto Cesareo and Marina di Ugento, especially in the low season, they host numerous groups of elderly people and guarantee entertainment with musical evenings and cabaret shows.

3 - Sicily: San Vito lo Capo or Etna coast

If you love the sea, another top destination is Sicily, a land kissed by the sun. We advise you to visit it between September and October, when temperatures drop and prices become much more affordable. Here you can enjoy the most beautiful beaches in Italy and delight yourself with incredible culinary specialties.
Another excellent reason to visit Sicily after September is the large amount of cultural-fair events that characterize this period: the Cous Cous Fest of San Vito lo Capo (end of September), la Bronte pistachio festival (late September-early October), andOttobrata Zafferanese (every Sunday in October).

Holidays for disabled and non self-sufficient elderly people

Even those suffering from serious diseases, dysfunctions and disabilities have the right to a vacation. Fortunately, there are several accessible structures both at the sea and in the mountains, able to accommodate special visitors who need daily support and assistance.
With regard to Beach resorts we point out:

  • Serapo hotels, in Gaeta (Lazio) - check prices and availability
  • Hotel Onda, in Silvi Marina (Abruzzo) - check prices and availability

As for the resorts of mountain we point out:

  • Papa Hotel, in San Pellegrino Terme (Lombardy) - see prices and availability
  • Alpine House Dobbiaco, in Dobbiaco (Trentino Alto Adige) - check prices and availability

It should also be noted that several non-profit organizations and voluntary associations guarantee assistance and accompaniment services for the elderly, organizing guided tours, trips to the countryside, excursions and pilgrimages to religious places.
I mean, no matter how old you are, age doesn't matter to enjoy a nice trip!
