1 - Ljubljana

Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, is very close to Bled, so you can't miss a visit, thus varying the nature trails of the Slovenian mountains for a day. 2 - Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle

The Postojna Caves are the most famous karst formations in the world, they owe their fame to the spectacle they offer to visitors. Indeed, the limestone sculptures formed through the erosion of small drops of water over millions of years really leave you breathless. Inside there are beautiful and very large stalagmites, the longest reaches 5 meters, real natural jewels with a brilliant white surface in the darkness of the subsoil.

The Postojna Caves are located in south-central Slovenia and from Bled they can be easily reached for a day trip which, however, should not be overlooked. Predjama Castle. Also called Castel Lueghi, this Renaissance fortress is located a few kilometers from the caves, perched on the steep karst rocks, a magnificent spectacle that spans the centuries. 3 - Lake Bohinj

Lake Bohinj is located very close to Bled, the whole area of ​​the Slovenian Julian Alps is rich in glacial mountain lakes and this it is the largest body of water in Slovenia. Lake Bohinj has not yet known the tourist expansion of Lake Bled, its shores are not very built up and here you can find the peace that only unspoiled nature is capable of giving.

Very impressive it is reach the lake via the asphalted panoramic road, which from Bled then runs along the southern shore of Bohinj, up to the western end of the lake. Just before reaching the bottom, stop at cable car that will take you to the top of the Vogel, from which you can enjoy an exceptional view of the lake and the surrounding mountains.

4 - Vintgar Gorge

The Vintgar Gorge, carved into the rocks of the Julian Alps, is a place of rare beauty and is located very close to Bled, theideal for half day trekking. The gorge, carved by the tumultuous Radovna stream, was formed between the Hom and Boršt mountains, and is 1,6 km long. Its feature is that, in addition to offering sports courses for the more daring, has been equipped to be traveled even by families or by those who simply want to take a quiet walk.

So, throughout its run, you can walk on wooden walkways that blend perfectly with the wild landscape. The route ends above the spectacular Sum waterfall, 13 meters high, under which there is also a small hydroelectric power station. The Vintgar Gorge was created by nature in collaboration with time, but on its path you will also see a man-made construction: the single-arch stone bridge of the Bohinj Railway, which is 33,5 meters high.

5 - Mostnica gorge and Voje village

Above the village of Stara Fužina, before arriving on the Bohinj lake, you can reach another spectacular gorge, perhaps a little more inaccessible, but very interesting. It is accessible from the right side of the lake, to the north, the full length of the route is 2 km, the gorge was carved by the clear and very fresh waters of the Mostnica stream that gives its name to the gorge.

There are some points where the stream is very narrow and the rocks above it reach a height of 20 meters, but, arriving at the highest part, the valley opens up to the characteristic village of Voje, which seems straight out of fairy tales with its typical mountain houses, made of wood with sharp roofs and green meadows that open up under the rocky peaks. The spectacular ones await you at the end of the gorge Voje waterfalls, and here you can refresh yourself at the delicious mountain cafe.

By public transport, you can take the bus to Lake Bohinj but get off first, in Bohinjska Bistrica, from here change and take the bus of the Bohinjska Bistrica ZP line, getting off after 11 minutes in Stara Fužina. 6 - Sava Bohinjka River

During a holiday in Bled you cannot miss to do some healthy water sport with a touch of adrenaline, spending a day on the Sava Bohinjka river with a kayak. As we have seen, the area is full of streams that create spectacular gorges and waterfalls, in particular this river flows into Lake Bohinj but, first, it forms a beautiful waterfall just ahead of the village Bohinjska Bistrica, the whose name is Savica.

Here you can do hiking, or rent a kayak and jump into the water, of course be careful! We suggest you to do it only with an expert guide, the experience will be safe as well as much more interesting.
