Hello everyone VACABONDI, today in this article I will look for? to make you relive the very fast weekend I spent on the beautiful Lake Garda.
11/10/2018: PESCHIERA DEL GARDA
The departure ? always from Orvieto, this time for? the destination ? Peschiera del Garda. The journey flows quickly, the highway seems to be there just for us and between one song and another on the stereo, we find ourselves at our destination with little more? of 6 h. The rest area where we decided to stay? the Frassino Camper Area, an excellent starting point for visiting the entire southern part of the lake. The daily price? of 15? and provides all the main services, hot showers and toilets always found clean, electricity connection and loading and unloading service. The property is located at the motorway exit, far from the city center? 2 km and only 8 km from Gardaland amusement park. The public means available in this period are not very many but having the scooter available we do not have many problems, and once the camper is placed, the tour begins! In the afternoon, accompanied by a partly cloudy sky, we head towards the historic center of Peschiera del Garda, we are immediately surrounded by the suggestive alleys of its ramparts with a myriad of shops, restaurants, historic buildings, squares, churches and imposing military structures. Peschiera can? also be called city? fortified, not only for the fortress which? one of the architectural jewels of the city, but for all the military structures inside, surrounded by walls and bulwarks.
The following day the tour continues with the pearl of Lake Garda, Sirmione. Once the scooter is parked, at 1? / H, we head towards the Scaligero Castle, the majestic and fascinating door of the city. of Sirmione,? one of the castles more? complete and best preserved in Italy. The center here too? invaded by tourists who observe the window of the many shops and stalls, so we decide to go and visit the beautiful Grotte di Catullo for the price of 6? Not knowing what we were going to visit, the expectation, given the name, was to find some cave. Instead, after reading the various signs, we understand that we are facing an ancient Roman villa, an archaeological area with arches and columns that has the lake as a background, offering very scenic views. They have been called this way why? when they were discovered they were completely covered by vegetation. Not even the beach is missing, the most? famous? Jamaica Beach, what? easily reachable from the caves of Catullus, just cross the gate of a bar, where I recommend a nice aperitif overlooking the lake, and access the beach.
Being a lover of good wine, we could not miss Bardolino. The historic center? truly picturesque, with the typical fishermen's houses a stone's throw from the lake, many shops, restaurants and activities? commercial aimed at tourism. From there we move to the Bardolino Castle, of which today only the two access doors and the severed tower are visible,? was built by King Berengar to repel enemies and? even if very little remains? a beautiful example of th century architecture. A last shopping trip in the center and here too the evening ends with the tasting of local delicacies, in one of the many restaurants, accompanied by a nice red glass of Bardolino.
14/10/2018: THE RETURN
The last day ? now arrived and with the promise to return to visit the rest of the magnificent lake, we leave the rest area and head home. View for? lunchtime, we don't miss one last bite of good fish, so we stop in Castelnuovo del Garda, at the Lo Scoglio restaurant. The choice is spot on in full, in fact this family-run restaurant has delighted us with its excellent quality cuisine. and the friendliness and courtesy of the staff. I highly recommend you to visit the enchanting Lake Garda, perhaps in the summer season, where public transport is much more? efficient to visit it. I hope I have been helpful and that our travel diary has involved the most? possible.
